Hello everyone, I have bought the DHC-MD373 in
February 2000 while i was in Hong Kong. This unit
is very similar to the DHC-MD333 but it is
improved and has more features packed into it. I
found this unit to be very impressive in
functionability, style and sound.
Specs:
This unit has 1 CD, 1 MD, Tuner, Tape, Optical In
(for making a recording digitally from another
MD) and Line In.
The CD has been improved by adding in the feature
of Cd-Text and it can play CD-RWs. The MD is
basically the same as the DHC-MD333. You can now
have the option of actually titleing up to 20
CD's. Note: this function does not edit the
titles onto your CD it just memorizes the title
you input and whenever the same CD is loaded it
recalls it and displays it.
Editing the MD is very easy and there are 7 basic
editing functions : "Name", "Track
Erase", "Move", "Combine", "Divide", "A-B Erase"
and "All Erase".
The Tuner is very easy to use because it
automatically tunes into the best frequency for a
particular radio station so you do not have to
fiddle around and adjust it ureself.
The tape mode I found particularly useful (even
though I did not have the seprate tape deck add
on) because I connected my computer's sound card
to the input behind the system and used it as my
speakers (note the input jacks were originally
designed for the tape deck, you also need to
supply youre own cable if you want to connect it
to your computer).
Optical In is bascially for MD to MD dubbing but
i didn't find it that useful because I did my MD
to MD dubbing through the Line In mode because my
portable MD player didn't have a optical out
jack.
The DHC-MD373 also comes with 6 preset sound
modes: Rock, Pop, Classic, Jazz, Dance and Flat.
DBFB also comes with this machine and it stands
for Dynamic Bass Feedback which basically
increases the bass (by the way the bass is very
good on the system not too hard but not too soft
either, it's just right).
Although this unit has no jog dial labelling your
MD or CDs is still very easy.
There are 3 different modes of play for both the
CD and MD: Disc (which is normal), Shuffle and
Program (to program tracks).
Another feature that i thought was very useful
was the Alarm Clock, you can set the system to
tell it when to turn on and play music to wake
you up and turn off at a specific time so you
don't have to turn it off yourself.
Style:
Very stylish, it goes well with any desk. The
buttons have lights which glow when pressed. The
MD and CD both have light indicators to tell the
user if there is a disk inside. When there is a
disck it lights red, when there is no disk the
light goes off : )
For all those people planning to buy this model
for the U.S. there is no need to buy a extra
power changer because there is one built in. All
you have to do is switch it and you're ready to
go. Although you may have to buy a plug adpator
since the power plug is in a different shape, its
very cheap though only $@ at any hardware store.
Overall this unit is great! I love all the neat
functions and the sound. The remote is designed
very well because it allows easy navigation
through discs with many tracks. I hope this
information helps!
