I bought the EX-770MD in october 1998 at 4900FF (about $750) instead of 6990FF (about $1050), and I must confess that I don't regret it! At first, I was just looking for a very good MD equiped Hi-Fi, and since I was fully satisfied with my SONY Portable MD (MZ-R30), I began to test the Sony Hi-Fi's, but the sound of the "studio" one disappointed me a little, then the JVC unit didn't recognize my Recorded MD, and I waited for more than 10 seconds in front of the Kenwood one until I could hear a basic sound...
So I take one of the MD I had recorded with the MZ-R30, and in spite of the analog MTV recording, I was just THUNDERSTRUCK when I hear the bass on "Sash!-Mysterious Time", and then I put "Mariah Carey-Open Arms" quite loud... and that was the way I was addicted to the Sony EX-770MD HiFi.
Today, I can enjoy the powerfulness of the Bass (very enforced with the DBFB function), which can make the walls shake so easily, and could wake up a "dead"... for example, every time I'm using this function during a party, it's so exciting that ALL the people come to the dance floor and jump everywhere!
Concerning the party, the EX770 is better than the EX880 because it has a Micro Input and a Karaoké function which "erase" the singer voice of a CD, MD, or Radio (and it works quite well).
Moreover, you can increase highly the volume without any risk of distorsion, and I wonder if the dome tweeter could'nt also allow you to break a glass... actually I didn't try.
Well, in my opinion, the SONY EX-770MD is perfect for those who are searching both the POWERFUL AND the EMOTION (due to the quality)."
